Don’t rush to unpack. Living out of your “important items” bags for a few days will help take the pressure off everyone to hurry and settle into the new house.
If you have a laid-back personality like I do, people can receive your excitement in one of two ways. They will think you’re being an absolute weirdo and you might even scare them a bit. Or they will think that your newfound excitement means that your new opportunity must be a gold mine since you rarely get excited about anything.

If you have children, provide them with some ground rules about how to handle their new pet. Explain that the cat may be scared until he adjusts to his new environment and ask all family members to agree to give the cat some space.
